We take great pleasure and honour in inviting your shooters to participate in the impending 2011 Singapore Open Shooting Championships (2011 SOSC).

The Organizing Committee has taken superfluous endeavors to make certain your shoot and stay in uniquely Singapore (http://www.visitsingapore.com/publish/stbportal/en/index.html), a dynamic city rich in contrast and colour where you'll find a harmonious blend of culture and cuisine an enjoyable, exhilarating and memorable one where new friendships are discovered, built and nurtured.

The 2011 SOSC is the most prestigious shooting event in Singapore. We welcome you to join us, to make this championship a big success. Last year, we galvanized a milestone by holding the inaugural World Association 1500 Precision Pistol Competition (WA 1500 PPC), a light action full bore shooting discipline focusing on bulls eye precision and extraordinary shooting marksmanship to tests shooter's ability under a number of time limit, distance and position constraints (the course of fire).

This year, I'm happy to report that we intend to create yet another milestone for SSA in the number of participants for 2011 SOSC. To help us attain our goal, we had lined up the following events for your participation and support.

  1. ISSF Pistol & Rifle
    10m Air Pistol, 10m Air Rifle, 25m Centre-fire, 25m Sports Pistol, 25m Standard Pistol, 50m Free Pistol, 50m Prone Rifle and 50m 3 Positions. (http://www.issf-shooting.org)

  2. ISSF Clay Event
Trap, Double Trap and Skeet. (http://www.issf-shooting.org)

  3. World Association 1500 Precision Pistol Competition (WA 1500 PPC)
Main-match Pistol / Revolver, Distinguish Pistol, Stock Pistol, Service Revolver, Open Pistol (Modified) and Snub-nose Revolver (Modified). (http://www.wa1500.org/index1.htm). We will adhere strictly to the rules as stipulated by WA1500PPC as much as possible with some in-house rules to enhance participations. Rules and regulation will be briefed and discussed during the technical meeting to avoid misunderstandings.

The only major exception is given to the Snub-nose Revolver (Modified) match where the rules and format is specially calibrated to suit Singapores mainstream Police revolver, the Taurus Md85.

In the view of promoting precision pistol shooting and encouraging shooters of various skill sets, the Singapore Open Shooting Championship WA 1500 PPC will have two major classes; the Open and Production Classes. Each major class has five sub-classes, segregated by a fixed percentage; namely, High master class (98.4%), Master class (96%), Expert class (96%), Sharpshooter (92%) and finally Marksman (86% and below). The top three shooters of each sub class will each receive a wining medal. For more detail please see (PPC Match Rules).

  4. International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC)
Four dynamic day stages and two demanding night stages (http://www.ipsc.org)

  5. The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA)
IDPA is the governing body of a shooting sport that simulates self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. It was founded in 1996 as a response to the desires of shooters worldwide. The organization now boasts membership of more than 11,000 including members in 19 foreign countries. One of the unique facets of this sports is that it is geared toward the new or average shooter, yet is fun, challenging and rewarding for the experienced shooter. The founders developed the sport so that practical guns may be used competitively. An interested person can spend a minimal amount on equipment and still be competitve. The main goal is to test the skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship. "Competition only" equipment is not permitted in this sport.

The firearms are grouped into five (5) divisions:
             1. Custom Defensive Pistol (.45ACP semi-automatics only)
             2. Enchanced Service Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber semi-automatics)
             3. Stock Services Pistol (9mm (9x19) or larger caliber double action, double action only,
                 or safe action semi-automatics)
             4. Enhanced Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers)
             5. Stock Service Revolver (.38 caliber or larger double action revolvers)

See Appendix One - Equipment for delineations in the revolver divisions. Shooters are then
classed by like-skill levels with progession from Novice (NV); to Marksman (MM); to
Sharpshooter (SS); to Expert (EX); and finally to Master (MA).

Please visit the website (http://www.idpa-singapore.com) for more information.

     6.    Police Action Pistol (PAP)

SOSC 2011 will organize the inaugural Police Sports Association (PSA) Police Action Pistol (PAP) for
its participants. The organizer intends to organize this shooting competition that will not turn into
an equipment race. Police Action Pistol (PAP) a shooting event requires the use of practical
handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for police duty
(Uniform Duty Gear or Concealment
            Carry)
. No ˇ°competitionˇ± equipment is permitted in PAP matches since the main goal is to test the
skill and ability of the individual, not equipment or gamesmanship.

There are two main duty classes for PAP, mainly Revolver and semi-auto class. Participants whom
are shooting Revolver will use their duty issued 3
inch barrel revolvers Double Action (.38 caliber
            or larger double action revolvers
with no more than 4 inch barrel length) and those whom are in
semi-automatic category can either participate in Single Action or in Double Action pistols
            event (
which includes safe action semi-auto pistols; i.e. Glock)

Competitors may shoot only one class of gun; either Revolver or Semi-automatic, for both
Individual and Team events (for example, if a competitor starts out shooting a revolver,
he/she must use a revolver in both the Individual and Team events).

The competition is run in 2 main events, Individual and Team. Each Police units, clubs,
            Auxiliary Polices
, Defense Armed Forces and Shooting Clubs can send as many participants
in individual or in team events. To make up in a team you must have 4
participants. For the
team event scoring only the top three shooters from a team will be used to tabulate the overall
            team score.

For the individual event, there will be four categories such as Master (M), Expert (Ex),
Sharpshooter (SS) and Marksman (MM) to cater and honour shooters with various shooting
skill and standard. Each category will have 3 medal winners (i.e. Gold, Silver & Bronze).
There will only be an Overall Team event in which, the top three teams will win medals.

In the spirit of competition and good sportsmanship, these Championships are open to all competitors who are members or affiliate members of their respective National Shooting Association, Home Team Agencies, Auxiliary Polices and Defence Armed Forces.

The Singapore Shooting Association is looking forward to having you join in the shooting camaraderie with local and overseas competitors.
